Fishing Bear Charters
P.O. Box 56
Tenakee Springs, Alaska 99841
Our charter operation is on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska - a beautiful place called Tenakee Springs. You'll be in good hands with guide Tuck Harry, who has been a professional fishing guide for more than 30 years. His knowledge of
salmon fishing in Southeast Alaska, as well as the rivers of Washington and Oregon, is unrivaled.
There are many places to fish in Alaska but few rival this location between Juneau and Sitka, Alaska. We're on a secluded island in an area known for its fishing, as well as beautiful Southeast scenery.
Getting to Tenakee Springs
Your adventure begins with your trip north! From the lower-48 you will likely fly into Juneau or Sitka, Alaska. From there you will take the Alaska ferry or a floatplane to Tenakee Springs and Fishing Bear Charters. Contact us for information before booking your trip. "We just spent 4 days with Tuck, Lisa, Wyatt, Meryl, Tucker, Oz & Ginger in Tenakee & had the TIME OF OUR LIVES!!! We caught so many varieties of fish including King & White Salmon, Cod, Rock Fish, Halibut & Dolly Varden. We were also able to encounter 17 different Brown Bears including 3 groups of sows with 2 cubs each, within a very close range, as well as a multitude of Orcas, Porpuses, and of course many gorgeous Bald Eagles."
"Thank you Lisa and Tuck. That was the best way to spend a honeymoon hands down. The fishing was fantastic, but you two really made it the best experince I have ever had."
"Tuck and Lisa - Thank you so much for creating a wonderful vacation for us - we were expecting a fishing trip and got the most fabulous dining, fishing, whale/eagle/sea lion watching, hot springs soaking, overall incredibly relaxing vacation experience. It was only 3-4 days but we felt like we were gone for 2 weeks..."
What to Bring
The weather in our area is typically 50-70 degrees during the summer fishing months. You should pack appropriate clothing including rain gear, boots, warm socks, and hat. Believe it or not, we also recommend sunscreen and sunglasses!
Just about everyone who stays with us brings their camera to capture all the action. In addition to pictures of your daily catch you might also see bears, whales, and other Alaskan wildlife.
You don't need a waterproof bag but it doesn't hurt, especially for your camera gear.
Meals and Other Guest Services
Our guests primarily come for the incredible fishing amidst the brilliant Southeast Alaska scenery. But you have to eat and might find a little time to relax too. Fishing Bear Charters provides fresh Alaskan seafood every day: dungeness crab, shellfish such as prawns, and fish of course. If you want, enjoy a soothing soak in the Tenakee natural hot springs.
Guests who stay for more than three days might opt for a massage (on us!). We work with a local therapist whose massages are top notch.
